How to use it
- Allow the microphoneOpen the page and allow microphone access. All processing happens inside your device. The waveform is never sent anywhere.
- Choose the reference pitchWind bands in Japan use 442 Hz. Solo playing and recording usually use 440 Hz. Early music uses 415 Hz. Match whatever your group uses.
- Choose your instrumentSelect B flat, E flat or F and the display switches to written pitch. Choose C to read concert pitch directly.
- Sustain the note and watch the needleHold the note straight. The place where the needle stops moving is the equal-tempered position of that note.
- Tune chords by the beat, not the needleWhen several people tune together, listen for beats instead of watching the needle. The ensemble screen shows how many beats per second you have and what that is in cents.

Frequently asked questions
- Is this online tuner really free
- The tuner itself is free with no usage limit. There is no sign-up and no install. Only the recording analysis and the features that keep a record are part of the paid plan.
- Is my audio sent anywhere
- No. All processing happens inside your browser. A tuner only needs the sound that is happening right now, so there is no reason to store or transmit it.
- Can I change the reference pitch
- You can choose 415, 432, 440, 441, 442 or 443 Hz. Wind bands in Japan commonly use 442 Hz, because brass and woodwind rise in pitch as they warm up, so the starting point is set slightly high.
- Does it show written pitch for transposing instruments
- Yes. B flat instruments read concert pitch plus 2 semitones, E flat minus 3, F minus 5 and A plus 3. Select your instrument and the display switches.
- Does it support just intonation
- You can switch between equal, just and Pythagorean temperament. Choose a tonic and the scale itself moves to that temperament. The equal-tempered major third sits 14 cents above the just one.
- Can I use it during a full rehearsal
- Not in a large room. A microphone picks up air, so it reads the players next to you as well. For two to about eight players, the ensemble screen counts the beats between you.
- Does this replace a clip-on tuner
- No. A clip-on reads the vibration of the instrument, a browser tuner reads the air. They pick up different things, so they are used in different places, not one instead of the other.
- Does it work on a phone
- Yes. Any device with a browser and a microphone works. Some built-in phone microphones are weak at low frequencies, so the lowest register can read unstably.
